Ali Asadov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders.

During the meeting, both parties stressed the importance of the Global Summit of Religious Leaders held in Baku as part of COP29, under the slogan “World Religions for a Green Planet.”

They highlighted the significant events Azerbaijan has hosted to promote dialogue among religions, cultures, and civilizations.

PM Ali Asadov described multiculturalism and tolerance as a fundamental aspect of Azerbaijani society, stating that representatives of various ethnic groups, cultures, and religions have coexisted harmoniously in Azerbaijan for centuries. He emphasized that, in the contemporary period, multiculturalism and tolerance remain essential pillars of Azerbaijan’s state policy.

The sides commended the designation of Shusha, liberated from occupation in 2020, as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World, symbolizing continued support from the Islamic world for Azerbaijan.

Mohamed Abdelsalam expressed that the Muslim Council of Elders appreciates Azerbaijan’s substantial contribution to Islamic solidarity and its efforts to address the climate crisis.
