Azerbaijani judoka Hidayat Heydarov will be awarded an Olympic gold patch by the International Judo Federation (IJF), according to Idman.biz.

After winning the World Championship, Heydarov received a red patch on his kimono. Now, following his victory in Paris and the title of Olympic champion, it will be replaced by a gold patch.

Azerbaijani judoka won the Olympic gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Paris in the 73 kg weight category, defeating French judoka Joan-Benjamin Gaba in the final.

Heydarov, who entered the competition in the 1/8 finals, defeated Tohar Butbul (Israel) in that stage, Arthur Margelidon (Canada) in the quarterfinals, and Akil Gjakova (Kosovo) in the semifinals.

This is the first Olympics in Hidayat Heydarov’s career.
