Complex operational-investigative measures are being taken on numerous facts related to the involvement of illegal armed groups in battles in the form of terrorist groups transferring citizens of various foreign countries from Armenia to the occupied territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, according to press service of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan.  

The investigation revealed that there were reasonable suspicions on a citizen of the Republic of Lebanon Viken Eulcekcian’s and Hovak Kikiyan’s, another citizen of Lebanon, as well as foreign nationals’ participation in military operations and acts of terrorism in the occupied territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan for a pre-agreed specific salary. 

Viken Eulcekcian was filed a lawsuit under Article 114.3 (Mercenary), 214.2.1 and 241.2.3 (Terrorism), 228.2.1 (Illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of firearms and ammunition) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan,  279.1 (creation of illegal armed groups) and 318.2 (illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan).

Investigations are still ongoing.

Baku hosted a presentation ceremony of the concept project of the Patriotic War Memorial Complex and the Victory Museum marking the liberation of Azerbaijan’s territories from the Armenian occupation.

The project, called “The Peak of Independence”, was developed by Azerbaijani and Turkish architects, designers and engineers as a concept.

Addressing the ceremony, project manager, architect Mukhtar Erturan said Patriotic War Memorial Complex and the Victory Museum will be a symbol of Azerbaijani-Turkish fraternity and friendship.

Being a museum of independence, this complex will convey the truth about the January 20 tragedy and the Khojaly genocide to the world, as well as celebrate the Victory of the glorious Azerbaijani Army led by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

Former two-weight world champion Conor McGregor was left stunned on his return to the UFC as Dustin Poirier claimed victory in their rematch at UFC 257, according to BBC Sport.

McGregor came out of retirement for a third time to face fellow 32-year-old Poirier at Abu Dhabi’s Fight Island.

And although the Irishman edged the first round, Poirier unleashed a flurry of punches to seal a technical knockout two minutes 32 seconds into round two.

“I’m gutted, it’s a tough one to swallow,” said McGregor.

“His leg kicks were good, my leg was dead and I wasn’t as comfortable as I needed to be. I have to dust it off and come back.”

Poirier admitted McGregor had won the mind games before they stepped into the octagon for their first clash – a featherweight bout in September 2014 – and the American was stopped inside 106 seconds.

That set “the Notorious” on course for global stardom. He became the UFC’s first simultaneous two-weight champion before facing Floyd Mayweather in one of the richest bouts in boxing history in 2017.

Despite having just two UFC fights since, losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018 and beating Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in 40 seconds last January, McGregor seemed to start well.

He survived an early takedown in front of about 2,000 fans at the 18,000-capacity Etihad Arena, opened before the UFC’s third stint on Fight Island, and pinned Poirier against the fence for most of the first round, landing a few shoulder strikes like those that did so much damage against Cerrone.

McGregor said before the fight that, although he has achieved fame and fortune, he is still motivated to build a “highlights reel like a movie” in the UFC, and he tagged Poirier with a couple of right-hand shots.

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture has released a videoclip of the Holy Virgin Mary Catholic Church as part of the “Get to know our Christian Legacy” project.

The original Church, also known as the Church of the Virgin Mary’s Immaculate Conception, was constructed by the Polish architect Jozef Plosko, through personal donations of the Rylski oil magnate family in 1912, in Baku. The Church operated from 1915 to 1931 until its destruction by the Soviet Bolsheviks.

The Church was later rebuilt in 2007. On March 7, 2008, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev together with the First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva and the Cardinal Secretary of State Emeritus Tarcisio Bartone attended the opening ceremony of the Church.

Azerenerji CJSC is building a new 110/35/10 kV substation in Shusha to connect the city to Azerbaijan’s power grid and provide the city with reliable, stable, and uninterrupted electricity, Report informs referring to the press service of Azerenerji.

The new substation, which is being built at the entrance to Shusha, will have modern equipment connected to the dispatching system of remote control SCADA. 110 kV open switchgear and 35 and 10 kilovolt closed switchgear are created here. All parameters have been taken into account in the substation control building, which is being built to preserve the national ornament. Despite foggy, snowy, and frosty weather, work continues at an accelerated pace.

The Shukurbayli substation in Fuzuli district is expanded and completely reconstructed to connect most of the liberated territories, including the Shusha substation, to Azerbaijan’s power grid. A new 110 kV line is being connected to the substation 51 km from Imishli. The most important thing is that two-circuit 110 kV overhead transmission lines ‘Shusha-1’ and ‘Shusha-2’ are being laid 75 km from Fuzuli to Shusha.

Some 70 percent of the work on the overhead power transmission line has already been completed, and the work will be finished soon. The construction of a high-voltage overhead line, running through the village of Shukurbeyli in Fuzuli, the Boyuktaglar village in Khojavend, the Dashalti village in Shusha is carried out on a rotational basis in the most difficult mountainous, forest areas, snowy, foggy, and rainy weather.

The construction of new 110 kilovolt substations will soon begin in the liberated Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts.

Armenian Armed Forces launched a large-scale military attack on positions of Azerbaijani army on the front line, using large-caliber weapons, mortars and artillery on Sept. 27. Azerbaijan responded with a counter-offensive along the entire front.

On November 10, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement to end six weeks of fierce fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Under the agreement, Russian peacekeepers were deployed along the front line in Nagorno-Karabakh and the corridor between the region and Armenia. A total of 1,960 Russian peacekeepers were deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh under a five-year mandate.

Also, according to the agreement, on 20 November, Armenia handed over the Aghdam region which lies to the east of Nagorno-Karabakh, to Azerbaijan. This followed on 25 November by the Kalbajar region to the northwest of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The event focused on the historical significance of the January 20 tragedy, the success of the policy pursued by national leader Heydar Aliyev and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev to convey the truth about the events to the world community.

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued a video appeal to the world community on the 31st anniversary of the January 20, 1990 tragedy.

The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles has produced a short film dedicated to Azerbaijan’s Black January tragedy of 1990. The film mentions that in 1987 anti-Azerbaijani pogroms broke out in Armenia and that Armenians, attacking Azerbaijani villages, killed hundreds of civilians. As a result, 250,000 Azerbaijanis were expelled from Armenia.

It is noted that meanwhile, Armenia raised territorial claims against Azerbaijan, and all this led to mass anti-Soviet protests in Azerbaijan, which soon turned into a national freedom movement. To brutally crush this freedom movement, 26,000 Soviet troops invaded Baku on January 19-20 by order of USSR leader Mikhail Gorbachev and shot indiscriminately into the peaceful demonstrators. As a result of this massacre, up to 150 Azerbaijani civilians, including women and children, were killed and over 700 were wounded.

The film states that despite the bloodshed, the Gorbachev regime failed to break the will of the Azerbaijan people and that a million Azerbaijanis, defying the curfew, filled the streets to mourn the victims of this brutal massacre.

It is also stressed that Azerbaijan’s National Leader Heydar Aliyev fiercely denounced the bloodshed. The film includes, apart from his speech made at Azerbaijan SSR’s Permanent Mission in Moscow.

The film emphasizes that the Soviet brutality could not stop Azerbaijan from seeking its freedom and that Azerbaijan finally restored its independence on October 18, 1991.

In the early 1990s, Armenia invaded 20% of Azerbaijan’s territory and expelled 800,000 Azerbaijanis from their ancestral lands, and that in 2020, within 44 days Azerbaijani Army liberated the occupied lands.

The film concludes that today, 31 years after Black January today, Azerbaijan is free, prosperous, and healthy and strives to turn the Caucasus into a region of peace and cooperation.
