Azerbaijan is aiming to become a full member of BRICS, according to a statement from Sahiba Gafarova, Chair of the VI Convocation National Assembly of Azerbaijan, during her speech at the BRICS Parliamentary Forum’s plenary session.

“Azerbaijan promotes dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity in its foreign policy. This applies to both bilateral relations and activities within international platforms. Specifically, it pertains to collaboration with BRICS. Azerbaijan has already expressed its desire to join BRICS,” Gafarova said.

BRICS, which stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is an influential group of emerging economies focused on enhancing economic cooperation, political dialogue, and development. The group aims to create a more balanced global order and foster mutual growth among its members.

In 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates joined BRICS as new full members. This expansion reflects the growing authority of the association and its increasing role in international affairs.

Gafarova noted that strengthening parliamentary-level cooperation would support Azerbaijan’s bid to join the BRICS bloc.
