Even after Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia signed a tripartite agreement on ceasefire, Armenia continued to deploy military forces in parts of the Karabakh region, posing a serious threat to regional peace and stability, the lawyer, member of the Azerbaijani team of lawyers at the International Court of Justice Stephen Fietta said.
According to Report, he emphasized that only after carrying out anti-terrorist measures in September 2023 was Azerbaijan able to fully restore its sovereignty and control over the formerly occupied territories.
Fietta recalled that the first stage of Armenia’s territorial claims against Azerbaijan began in 1991.
In 1994, a ceasefire ended the first Karabakh war, but Azerbaijan was unable to liberate its territories. The illegal Armenian occupation of Karabakh lasted almost 30 years.
