An event dedicated to the Independence Day of Azerbaijan and the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev, the National Leader of the Azerbaijani People, was held in Los Angeles, Report informs.

Hosted by the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles, the event was attended by representatives of the US Department of State, Los Angeles County, Consuls General and Honorary Consuls of various foreign countries, elected officials, faith leaders, journalists, scientists, members of the Azerbaijani community, as well as leaders of Turkish, Pakistani, Jewish and other communities.

The event opened with the performance of the national anthems of Azerbaijan and the US. Consul General of Azerbaijan, Ramil Gurbanov, welcomed the guests and informed them about two significant events in the history of Azerbaijan, the establishment of Azerbaijanis’ first republic, the achievements of this republic and the role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the state-building of modern Azerbaijan.

Ramil Gurbanov pointed out that Azerbaijan, which regained its second independence in 1991, faced huge difficulties, but as a result of the successful domestic and foreign policy of Heydar Aliyev, who returned to power in 1993, the country was saved from great troubles, and solid foundations for the development of Azerbaijan were laid.

Noting that today Azerbaijan has become one of the fastest modernizing countries in the world, the Consul General also stated that under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijani lands were liberated from occupation by the Azerbaijani Army in 2020, historical justice was restored, and today restoration and construction works based on smart and green technologies are being carried out in those areas.

The Consul General said that Azerbaijan is ready for regional peace and has taken important steps for this. Later, the Dean of the Los Angeles Consular Corps, Cosmin Dimitrescu, on behalf of the consular corps, congratulated all Azerbaijanis on the occasion of Independence Day and the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. He spoke about Azerbaijan’s relations with many countries of the world, including Romania and EU countries, and emphasized its importance as a reliable partner in ensuring energy security.

At the event, a short film about Heydar Aliyev’s life and the important role he played in the history of Azerbaijan was demonstrated and an exhibition was organized.

The celebration also featured performances of Azerbaijani folk music by Zaka Zeynalov and dances by Laman Musayeva, and national costumes. The guests tried delicious dishes and sweets of Azerbaijani cuisine. The event was met with great interest.
