Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kenya Sultan Hajiyev has met with the country’s President William Samoei Ruto.

The President of Kenya once again congratulated Ilham Aliyev on his resounding victory in the snap presidential election and asked the diplomat to extend his best wishes to the Azerbaijani President.

President William Samoei Ruto hailed the development of sincere relations between Azerbaijan and Kenya, emphasizing opportunities for cooperation across various domains to expand bilateral relations. He underlined that this collaboration serves the mutual interests of both countries’ peoples.

The Kenyan President stressed the importance of fighting the climate change, describing the upcoming 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Baku this year as one of the areas of close and fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kenya.

Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, providing a conducive environment for further strengthening their rapidly developing ties. The diplomat expressed his confidence that the year 2024 would see the further development of mutual relations between the two countries.

The Azerbaijani ambassador noted that the country would host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in 2024, as well as the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in 2026.

Taking into account Kenya’s successful hosting of the 2023 Africa Climate Summit (ACS23), as well as the country’s Chairmanship of the Committee of the African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), the parties noted that the cooperation within the framework of COP29 across bilateral and multilateral domains would contribute significantly to the bilateral relations between the two countries.
