Russian border guards may end their service on Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Iranian borders, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan said, Report informs via Armenian media.

“In an ideal world, every country should be able to control its border,” he said, responding to a question about whether the visit to Armenia and activities of the US special border security group could lead to the withdrawal of Russian border guards from the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Iranian borders.

He noted that the Armenian side had discussed this topic with Iran, and no concerns were expressed.

He said that US assistance is aimed at enhancing the Armenian side’s border control capabilities.

When asked specifically if this assistance would be directed towards withdrawing Russian border guards, the deputy foreign minister of Armenia answered affirmatively.
