Azerbaijan’s natural gas supply to Bulgaria amounted to 2 billion cubic meters in 2024, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Huseyn Huseynov stated in his interview with local NOVA TV, Report informs.
Huseynov noted that after the energy crisis in Bulgaria, Azerbaijan began increasing its gas supply at the request of the other side.
“We increased gas supply to Bulgaria first from 1 billion cubic meters to 1.2 billion cubic meters, then to 1.5 billion cubic meters, and at the end of last year to 2 billion cubic meters. This means that we currently meet a large part of Bulgaria’s natural gas demand,” the ambassador emphasized.
Huseynov also spoke about Azerbaijan’s role in the European Union’s gas supply: “The EU sees us as a reliable partner. We have proven that we are a reliable partner. In 2022, a ‘Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy between the European Union, represented by the European Commission, and the Republic of Azerbaijan’ was signed. Previously, it was planned to supply 10 billion cubic meters of gas annually to the European market through the Southern Gas Corridor, but considering the events in Europe, we increased gas supplies and reached 13 billion cubic meters by the end of last year. We are now selling gas to 12 European countries.”
