“One of the important issues today is to ensure peace. There can be no sustainable development without reliable peace.”

“Although the people of Azerbaijan are peace-loving, unfortunately, we have become one of the peoples who need peace for about 30 years. 20% of Azerbaijani lands are occupied. 1 million refugees and internally displaced persons constitute 10 percent of the population. The rights of these people have been violated for 30 years. The attempts of the Azerbaijani side for a just settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict have seen no result,” Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development Ali Ahmadov said at the XVI Baku International Conference of Ombudsmen on the topic of “The role of Ombudsmen in achieving Fair Peace and Sustainable Development Goals.”

He said Azerbaijan is ready to contribute to all the issues concerning the world and is closely involved in these projects: “We hope that ombudsmen will try to unite their efforts to resolve this conflict.”
