The Afghanistan Embassy in the United Kingdom will officially close its doors and cease operations on September 27, following a formal request from the host country, according to Report, which cites TASS.
“The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in London will officially close and cease its operations on September 27, 2024, based on an official request from the host country,” the embassy’s head, Zalmay Rasul, said on the social media platform X.
According to The Express Tribune, the decision by the UK authorities follows the refusal of the radical Taliban movement, which seized power in Afghanistan, to recognize documents issued by Afghan diplomatic missions whose leaders have refused to cooperate with Kabul. The Taliban-formed Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously announced that this also includes Afghan embassies in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Canada, Norway, Poland, France, Switzerland, and Sweden.
